Here’s some more music from the crates. I just ripped this for a new friend/fellow boogie lover Constance K. (btw, check out her photography over here). This is some boogie funk heat.

I’ll preface this by saying that the analog to digital transfer of this record will not fully do it justice. It sounds 100 times better straight off the turntable.

The record is by Derrick called Boogie Times. It’s probably one of my all time favorite tracks/records I own. I got it May of 2007 at Mr. Peabody’s records on the far south side of Chicago and was selected by store owner Mark Grusant. It’s a pretty rare boogie record and I think he sold it to me for $5 but I’ve seen it on ebay for as much as $100. But as far as Boogie Funk goes, I have never meant anyone that knew as much about it as the guys at Mr. Peabody’s. What’s weird is they refer to what we called Boogie as ‘Garage’. I think this track is absolutely banging and hope you feel the same! lemme know!

Hey this is Tim. As promised in the first post, here are some tunes. I don’t remember where I got this record but it most likely was a thrift store find. I wasn’t sure how to pronounce Kalyan for a while but I think its [KUH LION]. I think this because there was a guy in my grad school program with the same name and that’s how he pronounced it.

Anyways, they are a 14 piece band from Trinidad and supposedly were the shit there for a while before this album was made. The title track is a serious banger. It’s not so much Disco or Reggae as it is old school SoCa music. Ignore the poor quality of the picture and just click it to download!
